Abstract

The movements of large population groups in Western countries, in particular, in recent decades, have brought about significant changes in the composition of their population. These changes have also had an impact on the education sector, resulting in  widespread cultural diversity within the student population, often undermining perceptions based on the homogeneous national and cultural composition of the population in many countries, including Greece. This new reality has made it imperative that cultural diversity be managed at  both international and national level. Therefore, initially, an attempt was made to canvass the views of primary school teachers regarding the management of cultural diversity and, subsequently, the forementioned management was evaluated. A quantitative survey was carried out at 207 primary school teachers of the prefecture of Attica during the months of February-March 2017. Important findings surfaced, namely, that the teachers of the sample did not follow individualized teaching as a strategy in the multicultural class  and did not use data from the culture of foreign/immigrant/refugee students. Moreover, they did not create the appropriate teaching material for the students concerned.
