Abstract

It is widely believed amongst the European community that every child has the undeniable right to be educated. In that direction, the majority of the European countries have elaborated special programmes for a certain educational category such as the gifted children. Many of them have resulted to the creation of specialized organizations that support gifted education. The aim is to improve the education of the gifted and provide postgratuated education to teachers in order to upgrade their educational system. On the other hand plenty countries, Greece included, do not have any special programmes for gifted children. This policy is often accompanied with the view that gifted education is elitist and gifted children will succeed regardless the education system provided. This article describes and compares various European countries’ education systems with emphasis to the Greek system for gifted children and the undeniable right of all children to have the education that they deserve.
