Ηθικές αξίες και προαγωγή της σωματικής και ψυχικής υγείας: Μια εκπαιδευτική πρόταση για την ενίσχυση της ψυχικής ευεξίας των μαθητών
Abstract
In this paper a bibliographic review is conducted based on the research data of various disciplines in order to investigate the relationship between moral values and the promotion of the physical and mental health of the individual. From the comparative study of the findings of each science it seems that they converge in the view that the acquisition of moral values and altruistic behavior is associated with beneficial effects for individual's physical and mental health as well as with the gaining of his prosperity and happiness. Then, suggestions are made to utilize these findings in designing programs promoting mental health both for adults and students. Moreover, particular reference is made to the modern role of school, which in combination with the family and the wider social environment can contribute to the promotion of students' mental health. To achieve this goal, educational programs in school environment have been designed for prevention and intervention. The effectiveness of those programs has been supported through many surveys. Finally, experiential activities for the educator are proposed for use in the classroom, aiming to enhance students' mental health and their moral education.
