Abstract
In this paper we try to show the importance of co – education as a way of learning, aiming at a school that will enhance students’ self-esteem. The possibility of a “school for all” is examined, regardless of the type of diversity of each student. Students – whether from special educational needs or from different cultural backgrounds – are part of a single school ensemble. In particular, the first chapter studies the concept of cultural otherness through a historical review, focusing on central points of the institutional framework. Examining the cultural diversity in the school environment as well as its intercultural extensions, the aim is to reveal the common components that bridge it with co – education. The second part refers to the concepts of co – education and inclusive education in order to show a possibility of a “school for all”. The last chapter focuses on the concept of students’ self – esteem as well as the ways in which a school can develop it.
